Dr. Conner Talks about Border order on Immigration as 'Far Overdue'
Conner told the American Press editorial board on Wednesday that the U.S. has the “absolute right to protect our borders,” but he asked where is the line drawn between doing that and “becoming vindictive.” The issue, he said, “hits me personally,” especially after visiting Nicaragua twice during mission trips.
“There is a lot of ‘us and them’ rhetoric, where they are the ‘other’ that need to be kicked out,” he said. “In reality, they are very similar to us, and they’re due human dignity. I know these are families who are just looking for a better life.”
Conner also stressed the need for immigration reform and mentioned one program where people could use their temporary worker visas to work in the U.S. before returning to their home country.
